INTRODUCTION
The Puelles family has lived
in Ábalos for longer than anyone can remember, and their winemaking
tradition goes back just as far. The current generation, the brothers
Jesús ans Félix Puelles, have enlarged the Molino (Old Mill) Estate and
converted it into a lovely wine cellar, standing alongside the old 17th
century water mill which the family bought from the town council in
1844.
This Tempranillo-planted estate follows ecological growing methods and
produces and ages the wines from different plots separately, with the
utmost care and attention, before bottling them as an "Estate Wine"
under the "El Molino de Puelles" label.
The winery is next to the hotel Hospederia del Vino.
WINERY
The installations have been designed to ensure maximum quality
throughout the process: gentle destemming, 20,000 –litre fermenting vats
for better control and natural cooling by the mill stream running by.
Pressing is via an air-pressure pneumatic bag system.
Ageing takes place in 225-litre “Bordeaux” casks, half in French oak and
half uin American oak, in an underground are in which the conditions
(temperature, humidity, etc.) are ideal for the living wine’s best
qualities to evolve. Here, engulfed in darkness and immersed in the
deepest slumber, it slowly ages, watched over by its expert minders.
In Bodegas Puelles we believe that great wines have to start from the
vineyard. So for us, viticulture is a collaboration with nature, a
balance between our passion for excellence and our trust in the natural
expression of the soil, climate and grape variety.
Vines have been grown in Ábalos for many, many centuries. There are
still ancient stone wine presses in the fields, whose origins are
unknown. The Bodegas Puelles vineyard, principally of TEMPRANILLO, aims
at obtaining moderate yields using organic growing practices which
respect the environment and give the fruit greater quality, with no use
of chemical fertilisers or herbicides and using onl such treatments are
as absolutely necessary.

WINE TOURISM
We are family wine cellar
with many generations of winemaking tradition in a small, privileged
area. We make very good wines for everyday drinking and fine wines for
special occasions.
You can share in the winery by investing in your own wine and becoming
the owner of one of our casks under the "CUB DEL MOLINO" scheme.

GUIDED TOURS
DAILY TOUR
To discover the process of making ageing and bottling the wine, as well
as general aspects of the vineyard. We will show you around the wine
cellar, durins approximately 60 minutes. Cost of visit per person: euros

SPECIAL TOUR BY PRIOR APPOINTMENT
Travel back in time by visiting vats carved out of the rock, in which
wine was made in centuries past, as well as part of the old part of
Abalos. Then we will tour the winery and explain the whole process of
making ageing and bottling the wines, as well as general aspects of work
in the vineyard.
The wine tasting will be accompanied by some kind of snack and as well
as the five types of wine (Young white, young red, crianza, reserva and
gran reserva), you will be able to taste fine wines of the PUELLES ZENUS
label.
