INTRODUCTION
Château Franc Mayne is a
Bordeaux wine from the Appellation d'origine contrôlée of Saint-Émilion,
ranked Grand cru classé in the Classification of Saint-Émilion wine. The
estate is located on the Right Bank of France's Bordeaux wine region, in
the commune of Saint-Émilion and only a kilometre away from the medieval
village. The main house is a typical 18th century "Maison girondine".
WINERY
Since 2005
Château Franc Mayne has been owned by Griet & Hervé Laviale. There have
been major renovations both in the main house and the wine making
facilities, with a new vat house containing wooden and stainless steel
vats. The property also comprises 2 hectares of underground quarries.
Chateau Franc Mayne has 7 hectares of vineyards.
As with most St Emilion wines Franc Mayne is produced mostly from Merlot
grapes. Yields are limited to 38 hl/ha, and the grapes are hand-picked,
with successive sorting in the vineyard and in the winery.
WINES
Château Franc Mayne produces annually about 30 000
bottles of red wine:
• Château Franc Mayne, Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé, as the main wine
• Les Cèdres de Franc Mayne, Saint Emilion Grand Cru, as the second wine
Apart from its first wine Château Franc Mayne Grand Cru Classé, the
estate also produces a second wine, Les Cèdres de Franc Mayne. It is
produced from the same terroir as the Grand Vin but from younger vines,
and is accessible at an earlier stage than Château Franc Mayne.
WINE TOURISM
As guests at Le Relais de
Franc Mayne, you will be invited to join a session of wine tour and
tasting. Discover the 7-hectare vineyard with its terroir specificity:
micro-climate, plots and grape varieties. Appreciate the newly renovated
fermentation area with stainless steel and oak vats. Walk into the
state-of-the-art cellar with oak barrels on the Oxoline rotational rack.
After the modern facilities, go through a kilometre long of old
underground tunnel used in the past for stone excavation. Nowadays, this
amazing underground gallery is where wines are matured in oak barrels.

to the nearby areas by taking small ancient roads dated from the Roman
period. A walk to the medieval town of Saint Emilion takes only 20
