    INTRODUCTION

The story of the Matetic Winery begins in 1999 when the Matetic family decided to diversify their business ventures and enter the world of wine, confident in the virtues of the climate and soils in the Rosario Valley.

The new Matetic vineyards winery, designed by the Viña Matetic team in cooperation with architect Lawrence Odfjell, is a state-of-the-art winemaking facility, constructed so as to complement its glorious setting.

The winery has also a restaurant and a wine lodge.

    WINERY

The new Matetic vineyards winery, designed by the Viña Matetic team in cooperation with architect Lawrence Odfjell, is a state-of-the-art winemaking facility, constructed so as to complement its glorious setting. In other words, harmony has been reached between the winery´s organic agricutural practices and the natural landscape of the valley. This winery, which has a 300 thousand-liter capacity, relies on a gravitational-flow design that optimizes management of the grapes brought in from the nearby vineyards. During a tour, visitors can learn about the different phases of wine production while appreciating stunning views of the vineyards and the beautiful Rosario Valley.

Reception: During harvest, the grapes of distinct varieties are handpicked and transfered in 12-kilo bins to reception in the winery. Here, the best bunches are selected by hand and stemmed. From here, the berries are re-examined, and the best berries are again separated from the rest. The idea is to begin the wine-making process with the finest raw materials possible.

Fermentation: The winery is made up of stainless steel tanks most favorable (in terms of size and shape) for high-quality wine production. All tanks have automatic temperature-control because this assures a perfectly controlled fermentation. The relatively small dimensions of the tanks allow for the best extraction of concentrated aromas and flavors from the skins of the grapes, and, since fermentation is carried out in small volumes, this encourages more personalized care for each tank and more flexibility to develop distinct components for blending. This, in the end, results in a more complete, more complex finished product.

Laboratory: This is where the Matetic winemakers isolate and analize each component to be blended into wine. Moreover, this is where the wine-making process is confirmed sanitary and certified.

Wine Cellar: During the design of this room, achieving the optimum conditions to store and age wines was of utmost importance. Temperature, humidity, and the amount of light were taken into account to create a cellar with the perfect conditions.
This part of the winery is one of the most important as this is where the wines are kept for months in silence. This constant contact of must and French oak results in refined aromas and gives birth of grand wines.

Tasting Room: The tasting room is where the winemaker taste and present the finished products. This is also where guests are invited to sample the high quality of Matetic wines and purchase wine, accessories, and a number of products made in Chile.

120 hectares of vineyards have been planted to date, and the whole estate (not just the vineyards) is worked organically. The grapes are certified organic by BCS since 2004, and for the last couple of years the vineyards have been managed bodynamically.

    WINES

    The wines:

    • EQ is short for equilibrium. This concept stands for the commitment Matetic vineyards has with nature in creating a harmony between the soil, the climate and the vines. The varieties are: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir y Syrah.

    • Corralillo represents the name of the still-standing century-old wine cellar and winery in Rosario Valley where wine of the old Mission grape was once made. The varieties are Chardonnay and a red blend.

    • Matetic: The Matetic Family has been pioneers in cultivating Syrah in the cool climate of the San Antonio Valley. In the old soil of granite origin found on our Rosario property, the fruit ripens slowly giving us the highest quality grapes. The organic technique of caring for the vines allows them to preserve their natural balance and express their authentic characteristics. The optimum quality of the grapes, the careful attention to every detail, and our passion for Syrah give life to this truly exceptional wine.
