INTRODUCTION
Etna DOC Donna Carmela is
produced in ten acres in the most prized of Etna’s wine areas. The
vineyards are located within municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, on
the northern slope of the volcano and are planted in Nerello Mascalese,
the vine that gives life to the great wines of this zone.
Pietradolce - Archineri Etna Red DOC (Designation of Origin) is created
in a territory of exceptional wine and with the vocation, passion and
commitment of the Faro family.
The winemaking takes place in a cellar fittingly in the town of Mascali,
from which Nerello Mascalese gets its name, just a few kilometres from
Donna Carmela. Our first bottling of Pietradolce Etna Rosso Archineri
2007 won the 2010 Vini d'Italia’s highst rating of Tre Bicchieri (three
glasses). Pietradolce Etna Rosso Archineri is characterized by a
ruby-garnet colour, a nose of red fruit and mineral notes, with
complexity, persistence and elegant tannin on the palate.
We can arrange visits, on request, to the cellar and the vineyards, and
for the tasting of our wine.
WINERY
We have
chosen to plant only vines which are native to Etna, grown for the most
part in the traditional form as bushes (alberello). This preference
comes from the profound conviction that this is what is required by the
land which offers us hospitality. Nerello Mascalese,Nerello Cappuccio
and Carricante are and will continue to be the main players in our
story.
